Along the way, bike riders will encounter a series of historical points of interest, each marking a key story of the battle or commemorating those who lived through it.
Manhay, Houffalize, and La Roche-en-Ardenne each carry deep scars from the Battle of the Bulge. Manhay was a strategic crossroads fiercely contested by German and American forces, leaving behind relics like a PaK 40 cannon. Houffalize endured devastating Allied bombings, with heavy civilian losses now remembered through memorials and its preserved Panther tank. La Roche-en-Ardenne, nestled on the River Ourthe, was almost entirely destroyed in December 1944, and today its bridges, plaques, and monuments honor both the civilian victims and the resilience of the town.
Together, these sites form a moving narrative from the shock of the German assault to the eventual Allied victory. The route is not only a cycling challenge but also a journey through living history, where every bend in the road reveals a story of struggle and remembrance.
