The museum contains a large collection that tells the story of the Second World War. From 1939 to 1945, the stories cover occupation through to liberation.

The museum is located close to the formidable German coastal defences at Cap Gris-Nez. Following the occupation in 1940 of the town where the museum is located, it was not until September 1944 that liberation came, by Canadian forces.

The collection within the museum and outside is extensive. Tanks, artillery cannons and a V1 rocket can be viewed outside. Collections within the museum showcase unforms, vehicles and equipment used by both sides during the Second World War. This also includes clothing used by civilians under the harsh conditions of German occupation.

Some displays contain the wider story of the war in the East Asia with collections of Japanese uniforms. Some displays contain artefacts that have been located in the local area in more recent times.

All displays have written information with French and English as the main two languages.
