The monument at the former Vredeskerk in Venray was erected in memory of all soldiers (American, Canadian, German, English and Dutch) and civilians who died during the years of occupation due to acts of war. For peace and freedom to prevail, forgiveness and reconciliation are needed.
The Vredeskerk was built with the initiative of chaplain W. Geerits in 1959. The church would be both a monument to peace (in a region that was badly affected by the Second World War) and a functional parish church. Funds were collected worldwide. With the creation of the columns in the forecourt, the church was completed.
